When the Haitian population does not care about the authorities and assumes its responsibilities

For several months, the Haitian population has been living in an extremely difficult situation. Insecurity is in full swing with the proliferation of gang groups challenging state authorities.

The bandits who are members of these armed groups continue to rape, kidnap and kill members of the civilian population who are left to fend for themselves. The authorities on their side remain silent and the thugs themselves extend their tentacles.

On Monday, April 24, agents of the National Police of Haiti recovered 14 young armed boys in a minibus in Canapé-Vert. According to information available to our editorial staff, these individuals were on their way to bring reinforcements to bandits who wanted to settle in Turgeau, an area in Port-au-Prince.

Furious, the population recovered these individuals and they were all burned alive. Shortly after, it doesn’t stop there. Members of the population of Turgeau, Debussy, among others, engaged in hunting bandits. That day, at least 8 alleged bandits were lynched and then burned after the execution of 14 armed individuals next to the public square of Canapé-Vert.

The next day and throughout the week, other areas engage in this battle nicknamed « Bwa Kale » in Creole. In Thomassin, Carrefour Feuille, Source-Matelas, Delmas 65, Gros-Morne, among others, alleged bandits were lynched and then burned by the population engaged in this battle, alongside PNH agents. During this popular operation, no case of kidnapping was reported in Port-au-Prince and in provincial towns.

A citizen residing in Turgeau questioned on this file clearly stated that the population is engaged in this battle because the state authorities do not assume their responsibilities. “No matter what consequences this battle may bring, we are not going to give up because it is written black and white in the principles of life, those who kill by the sword, shall perish by the sword” a he said, on condition of anonymity.

If citizens see this battle in a good light, others see it differently. In short, no matter how one person interprets it, it is quite clear that the population is tired of this machine of insecurity which is rolling at full speed and has decided to assume its responsibilities.
